A Winter's Tale
Groundhogs, oversharing, & a recap
Hello and happy February. The groundhog saw his shadow; six more weeks of winter! I haven’t written in a while. I hope you’re doing well.
We made it through January. I don’t know about you but it feels as though I barely scraped by. My husband and I just finished watching the television series 1923, a prequel to Yellowstone. It is a contemporary Western that follows the hardships a family faces during a Montana winter in 1923. While viewing, I cracked several jokes to my husband comparing it to our winter. I mean we do have 30” of snow on the ground and it has truly been one thing after another. In actuality, it reminded me how lucky we are. I started this newsletter knowing it would be centered on fashion, beauty, and inspiration, while also leaving space to share more personal details from time to time. In the hopes of sharing more, I started writing about all of the things that happened this January that made it feel so long and hard. It felt like I was complaining so I erased it. Perhaps I’m still looking for a way to share without feeling that way. It was ingrained in me to not share when things are going wrong because everyone has their own problems to worry about. There is truth to this. I aim to practice gratitude and want to add positive thoughts to the world but also know that sharing is connecting with others, and that when others have shared their hard times (especially others sharing their journeys with OCD, which I will write on another time), it has helped me immensely. There’s a line there, I’ll find it.
Anyways, a collection of January memories, what’s been lingering on my mind lately, things I’m looking forward to:
We wrapped up our café residency at Mirador. I already miss being there but we’re focusing on production and wholesale; all good things.
Traditionally we head to a party or host one on New Year’s Eve and this year we opted to go out for a starter and head home to cook steak and watch movies. Best idea yet.
We have received so much snow this year. We had plans to go to Hudson for Ricardo’s birthday but there was a blizzard that day so we stayed home, made pancakes, and watched movies. We really enjoyed Train Dreams. Have you seen it?
In December I wrote on how I felt content with my hair color and length. I wrote when I started this newsletter that I felt a constant urge to cut my hair. Take a wild guess who has a haircut scheduled at the end of the month and can’t decide whether to trim or chop?!
Feeling pleased as punch with my new jeans. I’ve wanted a dark wash for a while and kept striking out. These offer adjusters on the back which I will let out after a big meal.
Leaving you with this glorious rose from my garden last summer. Before we know it we will have blooms again.
That’s about all I have for today. Thank you for reading.
xx Katie
